analog media

I want a Moondrop CD player.

It has a transparent lid, so you can see the hypnotic CDs art spin a become an abstract piece of colours. It also is vey cool designed, cool enough for my taste for sure. And if I get it sometime, it will become my first dedicated CD player.

My first “own” piece of technology was a MP4 Walkman by Sony, I loved that shit to death (it died like a year ago). I was obsessed with having an MP3-MP4 that could display the art of the music that I, of course very illegally downloaded from the web. Because fuck u Lars Ulrich, fuck U discographies and more importantly fuck Spotify. Where was I?

Yeah! a lot of the Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Daft Punk, Megadeth and other indie (its a joke) bands were on my own digital catalogue.

It felt curated, it felt mine. I was listening to my own device with my own pirated music and I loved that.

Then I just got Spotify for some years and let the algorithm find music for my taste, which I enjoyed until a couple of years ago someone asked what I listen to, so I tried to answer.

But I did not know the name of the artists, not even the genre. I was just listening to the misfits 3.0 playlist.

It felt fake, like taking drugs without knowing what effects they produce. Addictive, but it felt despicable not knowing the name of the artist I enjoy.

I never had real physical media, only my PS4 Games I guess, but even then most of the DLCs are Digital, so I don’t even own the whole game. (Thank u Nicole for buying me the PS Store cards from Spain)

I only have one digital purchase via iTunes, and that’s the movie Nausicaä (one of my favourites Ghibli films).

So what am I doing to counter attack the abused algorithmic online taste building of millionaire decadent non moral and apocalyptic industries?

I bought film for the analog camera that my Professor lend me, a Nikon FE.

I just married and had a party so I took some analogue fotos and it’s exiting not knowing how they are gonna look (most probably under-exposed and shaky cuz that’s how life is. But it doest matter, because I will have it in a physical film, that will decay over time, just like me and my memories, because it’s fine that things don’t last forever. but if the break I want that to be because of use and not because of some planned obsolescence.

what’s the conclusion you ask?

I hope soon I will get a CD player, but I am trying to find balance between having a comfortable life enough to keep on living and also paying debts. So I don’t know when that will happen. But I want to know what I have. Like I know were I got every art piece in my home.

So I recommend u to get outside and touch some grass, but don’t forget ur jacket, cuz its getting cold already.

okaybye.
